René Hermkens, project manager, work in the field of gas distribution technology. In 1986, he joined Kiwa Technology, where he occupied positions on gas application and distribution. At the present time, he plays an important role in the Centre of Excellence Gas Grid Control, where he as a program manager is responsible for the quality of the technical results obtained in the projects related to safety and reliability of supply. With his technical, consultancy and project management experience, he plays a key role in projects on material evaluations, asset management, risk management and maintenance. He is the project manager of a large group of projects on optimization of maintenance, leak detection, quality of used materials, non-destructive testing of polyethylene joints and inspection techniques. In cooperation with one of the gas utilities in The Netherlands, he developed the “Safety Indicator,” which indicates the gas grid quality in terms of safety.
