Wil Thissen holds an engineering degree in physics engineering and a doctoral degree in systems and control engineering. He worked at the University of Virginia, in the United States, and Rijkswaterstaat. Thereafter, he co-founded the School of Systems Engineering, Policy Analysis and Management at Delft University of Technology. (It is now part of the Faculty of Technology, Policy and Management.) His research interests are in the development and testing of systemic concepts and methods to support policy development in complex, multi-actor settings. His primary current interests include the application of system dynamics modeling, actor-network analysis methods, and methods for dealing with deep uncertainties, mainly in the context of water resource management and the energy transition. He participates in several large national research programs, including SenterNovem energy research, the Next Generation Infrastructures foundation, and the Knowledge Network for System Innovations and Transitions.
