Effects of narrow band gases on materials

What are the effects of the narrow band gas on the physical materials used in the gas network?

The Dutch natural gas infrastructure consists of a steel transmission network having a total length of more than 12.000km and a distribution network containing about 124.000km of mains. The distribution mains consist of approximately 95.000km of polymeric materials (such as polyvinyl chloride and polyethylene) and 29.000km of metallic materials (mainly steel but also some cast iron). The material of the service lines is mainly polyethylene; but also copper and brass are used. The pressure regulators, especially those in-house, are made of steel or aluminum. The total replacement value of these assets is more than 10 billion euros.
